Hi Sam,

Yeah! the lack of password prompt/'invalid' certificate in TMG is because the .cer does not contain the private key. I've not experienced this myself but I can see how it may be slightly confusing. Thanks for calling it out.

Cheers,
Chris

Just a note which will hopefully save someone an hour of frustration! If, when you import the CAS / Web server cert, you are not prompted for a password (even if the import is successful) and subsequently TMG still reports the cert as 'Invalid', check that you are importing a .pfx file, and not a .cer file! I made this mistake because when I exported my cert to .pfx I gave it the same name as another existing .cer file, and since the cert selection defaults to showing only .cer files, I was inadvertently selecting the .cer with the same base name as the .pfx file... Maybe naming them something different is better? :D

The patch fixed it initially but after a few days the same thing is happening again. So Microsoft needs to try again.

Thanks for that little nugget. This had been infuriating me, as every time I wanted to close would always the Exchange snapin, I would always get this error. I was certain that it must have a dialogue box open somewhere. At least I know I'm not mad now.
